Proteinates in Pet Foods

Proteinates are trace minerals that are bound with proteins (metal-ligand bonding). This prevents the mineral from being bound by an antagonist like phytic acid or fiber, and made indigestible. Once in the small intestine, the bind is released and the mineral is available for absorption.
